A WALK THROUGH NOOROO GARDENS

Good morning, dear friends.  Hope you are well.

A WALK THROUGH NOOROO GARDENS

It is winter here in OZ and we are freezing, not so much from the lower temperature but from the gusts of cold wind that brings you chills and there is nowhere you can hide from it.  Don't trust those Aussies who would tell you that there is no winter in Australia, they are in denial and can't be trusted.

Of course, it is not the winter we used to have back in Russia but we had a different approach to it, either.  For starters, we wore warm clothes, the dwellings had central heating and double glazed windows, etc.  Here, the temperature would not be higher then 12 degrees and you see people on the streets dressed in the same clothes they wore during the summer months, ie thongs, shorts and t-shirts.

I have been living here for over thirty years now and are as fascinated by this phenomenon as I was when I saw it for the first time.

A WALK THROUGH NOOROO GARDENS

The one thing I love about winter is watching how the trees and bushes have gradually changed their colours.  Some turned their leaves into a golden yellow, while others become coloured in deep reds and burgundy.  It is a perfect time to take a drive to the Blue Mountains, a rugged region West of Sydney known for its dramatic scenery, steep cliffs, eucalyptus forests, waterfalls and villages dotted with guesthouses, galleries and gardensand take a walk through the gardens that are hugely popular among the locals and tourists alike.  Just make sure that you are appropriately dressed as the weather there is far cooler than by the coast.

A WALK THROUGH NOOROO GARDENS

Last Sunday the air was cool but calm, the sun was nice and warm so we decided to take a trip to Nooroo Gardens, one of many parks spread along the mountains to see the change of seasons before the leaves fall off completely.

I didn't hesitate to bundle up into my all time faithful puffy jacket, scarf, gloves etc.  It was a minimum of five degrees cooler and I felt it in my bones, no matter how fast we walked.  After a pit stop at the local cafe for a bowl of pumpkin soup and a toasty which was exactly what the doctor ordered, it helped to keep the cold away and we thoroughly enjoyed the grounds.

The air was so clean, crisp and fresh that our lungs went into overdrive from the abundance of oxygen.  The colours of the foliage were magnificent, we couldn't stop admiring this wonder of nature.  The only flowers that were still in bloom were Hydrangeas, some of their colours I never seen before.

It was a lovely invigorating day and we returned home recharged and refreshed.

  2. What a wonderful trip through the gardens! The changing foliage us just gorgeous. I had to laugh about the Aussies in their shorts and things in winter. That same phenomena occurred in Las Vegas too. Shorts and t-shirts in winter. It’s like they just want to pretend there is no winter.

  3. Loved reading of the contrast between the two countries in terms of weather and the needs and solutions that creates, and to read how you still marvel at the Oz seasonal changes.

  5. I love hydrangeas, they are now starting to bloom here. I guess you are just used to very cold winters. I hate winters, I hate to be cold. Well, first we have summer here anyway

  6. I love watching leaves change colors. It's my favorite part about autumn season here. But sadly, it's not even summer and we are burning up! I love the cooler seasons for sure and am a little jealous that you have that right now. I also love puffer jackets so it's only natural I am obsessed with yours!

    1. Thank you Maureen, that's what happened when you live not just across the globe but also upside down :). In winter we complain about the cold, in summer - the worst part for me is humidity. Have a lovely weekend

  7. Oh loving your photos! We are in high summer here in NY but fall comes after summer and I love fall. In denial LOL so true! When my friends and I moved from NY to Seattel we noticed the same thing! It would be cold enough to see your breath and people would be wearing flip flops and dresses with cardigans, and it would raining!!

  11. Your winter outfit looks so cosy! It has been such a cold winter here too but thankfully not as cold as it gets for you - 12 degrees sounds far too cold, that's our current overnight temps, it's about 20ish during the day and we have all the winter layers out, haha! Sadly it means you don't see a lot of autumn or winter leaves in Brisbane!

Thank you for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! Hope you had a great weekend :) We had a fun one!
