MY RED PHASE

Hello friends hope you are coping well under the circumstances.
MY RED PHASE
Life in Australia is slowly becoming more energetic with more restrictions being loosened almost every week yet it's far from the life style we had pre-COVID and it seems that it will stay with us for quite a while.
MY RED PHASE
Anyhow, let's talk about fashion for a change.  If you are a regular reader of my blog, you might have noticed that I have been silent for a couple of weeks for no apparent reason whatsoever 😄.  You also might remember that I've written a series of posts that I called "MY COLOUR PHASE" and so far blogged about My Blue Phase, My Orange Phase and My Yellow Phase.  In today's post I would like to pay my dues to yet another favourite colour of mine, Red 💖
MY RED PHASE
MY RED PHASE
I do love bright colours and wear them a lot, however when it comes to red, I tend to avoid its bright and vivid hues such as vermilion or scarlet, for example as they don't go very well with my skin tone but rather prefer to have my clothes in colours that, while still belonging to the red family, have far less intensity and saturation in the likes of pink, burgundy or plum hues.
MY RED PHASE
In order to make these hues you need to alter the prime colour by adding a tint (white pigment) if you want your colour to be lighter tone or a shade (the black one) if you are after a  darker tone.  By adding different amounts of tints/shades, you will be able to create a long and extensive range of monochromatic colours that will span from rich deep burgundies and purples all the way to hot and baby pink and everything in between.

The greatest advantage of having such an abundant variety of one colour is that it makes it so much easier to wear something in red without worrying whether it is going to suit you or not.  All you need to do, is figure out which tone suits you best.  It might not necessarily be in red as we normally see it, strong and intense, but something from its extended range, something soft and gentle like baby pink or lavender.
And if you really want something in hot throbbing red, you can always have it in your accessories.

When my husband and I were in Rome for our wedding anniversary more than fifteen years ago, we were visiting Rome where the exhibition celebrating Valentino's 45th year love affair with glamour was held.  All the dresses that he had designed for half a century were there, divided into three major groups:  black dresses, white dresses and red dresses.  It was an amazing collection, and one which I will never forget.
MY RED PHASE
And this bright note concludes "MY COLOUR PHASE" series.  Please let me know what shade of red is your favourite?

Until then,

Anna

  1. I'm salivating over some of your pieces - the red brogue shoes, the patterned maxi skirt with front splits, the cold shoulder floral top. Stunning outfits. I don't have too much red, although I like it, and you've made me realise that I also prefer the plum/burgundy/pink tones as they're better with my colouring. Thanks for joining #WowOnWednesday.

    1. I saw your post, Mireille and I love the red dress you were wearing. It's not the hot pulsating red but rather ripe watermelon red, perfect for summer
