WHAT I WORE ON A WARM AUTUMN DAY

White outfit with bright accessories
According to the calendar it is the second month of autumn in Australia, but the weather is still incredibly warm and it's just a pleasure to be outdoors and feel the soft rays of the sun on your skin.  We were absolutely blessed with beautiful weather during the Easter break and took lots of walks around our favourite parts of the city still wearing our summer clothes, case in point my outfit today  was inspired by my memories of our trip to Italy two years ago.

We arrived in Sorrento in the middle of September.  Typically for this part of Italy, it was very warm during the day but once the sun would set, you would feel the chill in the air and.

Walking along the promenade with my husband, I kept looking around trying to capture the sense of Italian fashion and couldn't help but notice how many Italians, both men and women, love to be dressed in white from head to toe and then added big bold and bright accessories, whether it was shoes, handbags, head or neck scarves etc.

I especially loved the way some men would wear a scarf effortlessly wrapped over a plain white t-shirt and still look very chic.

And that is what I had in mind when getting dressed for lunch and a slow walk with our friends during the Easter break.  I started with a white pair of jeans and a t-shirt and layered with contrasting colour which I drew from my old Hermes scarf.

I wanted to capture the image of our world famous Sydney Harbour Bridge behind me but it came a bit overexposed because the sun was right above us.

Although all the pieces of my outfit have been in my closet for sometime now, today is the first time that I wear them all together.

MY NEW CHEETAH PRINT SILK MAXI SKIRT

Maxi silk skirt in Cheetah print from Tuchuzi
I can't speak for the rest of the world, but maxi skirts in an animal print, leopard in particular, are so on trend in Sydney right now that sometimes it feels like we are living in the jungle.  As a rule, I try to stay away from micro trends and fads knowing too well that they disappear as quickly as they arrive on the fashion scene but the rules are made to be broken and I decided to break mine when one day while I was browsing the racks of skirts in Tuchuzi,  an upscale boutique in the heart of Bondi Beach, I spotted (pun not intended 😊 ) a skirt that caught my eye or its bright colour and unusual print (it was called Cheetah) and that style reminded me of the skirt that I modelled for you in an earlier post here.  Lately I came to like bias cut midi slip style skirts for their versatility, simplicity and understated chic and was quite happy to add another one to my wardrobe.   In the past, the garments made out of silk were indicators of  wealth and those who could afford the garments were placed on a high rung of the society ladder but these days the boundaries have been blurred and a mix of high and street fashion has become je ne sais quoi.

I created these two looks for totally different occasions just to show you how adaptable this skirt could be.

For the formal look I wanted to upscale the skirt and thus chose this burnt orange colour wrap around silk blouse with a wide sash belt and patent sling backs in a similar hue.

We shot my second, casual look on Bondi Beach, the essence of relaxed easy going vibe and I wanted to test how my skirt would look down there.  Besides, you can't find a better background for your photo shoot then famous Bondi Beach Graffiti Wall . For this occasion, I paired it with casual button down cotton shirt that I tied in a knot around my waist and a pair of white sneakers that are hugely popular right now.  An oversized plastic earrings added another layer of casualness to my outfit.

MY NEW DUSTY PINK COAT

In the last couple of weeks the temperature in Sydney dropped so drastically that we finally got the message -  winter is just around the corner.  Time to pack away shirts, thongs and cossies and get out the coats, jumpers and boots.
MY NEW DUSTY PINK COAT
Winter is not my favourite time of the year but this season I have something to look forward to wear - my new Victoria and Woods coat.
MY NEW DUSTY PINK COAT
Since I left the corporate world, my wardrobe has become much more informal.  I still have a long woolen coat which I bought many years ago and wear it when we go to the Opera or to a posh dinner party.  My most go to winter overcoat is my black puffy jacket that I wear for a walk or to go to the gym.  During the last few years they have become hugely popular in Australia and people wear them everywhere.
MY NEW DUSTY PINK COAT
I feel that I need something to wear in between the two - a mid-length coat that while looking smart to wear over a dress or a skirt, at the same time would be casual enough to be paired with jeans or slacks.  And preferably in a light fun colour.
MY NEW DUSTY PINK COAT
Wondering through the racks of clothes during the End of the Year Sale at David Jones department store, I came across the Victoria and Woods counter where I spotted a coat that was exactly what I was looking for.  I must admit, due to its dusty pink colour, it was hard to miss☺.  Did I mention that it was on sale?  It was too hard to resist.
MY NEW DUSTY PINK COAT
It is not cold enough in Sydney to wear the coat yet so I am just modelling it for you.  The dress underneath is also from Victoria and Woods.  If you are a regular reader, you might recall my recent post about this sport luxe LBD and in case you missed it, here is the link.
