I AM WEARING WHITE DENIM SKIRT|DOVE GREY BLOUSE|CHOCKER

I AM WEARING WHITE DENIM SKIRT|DOVE GREY BLOUSE|CHOCKER
Hello my dear readers and fellow bloggers,

Hope you are all well and having a good week and have made some interesting plans for the coming weekend.
I AM WEARING WHITE DENIM SKIRT|DOVE GREY BLOUSE|CHOCKER
Today’s look is my second attempt to explore the possibility of the happy co-existence of rough street style denim and smooth luxurious silk that I started in the previous post (for those of you who, who have not read the previous post or would need a reminder, please read it here).  Hopefully, at the end of my experiment, I will end up with a couple of more fresh outfits.

This outfit is full of challenges and experimentation and the elements involved are: a street style white denim skirt, an elegant evening dove grey silk blouse and a hand-made choker.

This is one of my most favourite blouses that I love to wear when we are going to the Opera House to see a ballet or to listen to a symphony concert. I like to pair it with a black maxi skirt or tuxedo pants and adorn it with a string of pearls. There are few details of it that I particularly like, the fact that it does not have buttons but rather wraps up around your hips and the overextended sleeves with French style cuffs that I prefer to wear down for an extra chic factor as opposed to a casual rolled-up cuff look.

Today, however, I am pairing it with a white denim skirt that is in a totally different league and really hoping that it would work. The combo does not look too bad but it needs some final touches and the key to success is to choose the right accessories: shoes, handbag, jewellery etc.

First and and probably most crucial of them all - the footwear.  I was debating between low and high heel shoes and I tried them both but after consulting the mirror, the high heels won hands down.

WE ALL KNOW THAT NOT ONLY DO HIGH HEELS HELP TO MAKE OUR LEGS SLIMMER AND LONGER BUT ALSO DELIVER A STRIKE OF ELEGANCE TO THE SIMPLEST OUTFIT TAKING IT TO A COMPLETELY NEW LEVEL.

I added a small Chanel purse to keep it consistent with the elegantly chic style of the blouse and the shoes.

Also, I am experimenting with a choker. I have never ever worn nor owed a choker before but since I am pushing boundaries here, why not add another one, right? It is not a choker per se, it is, actually, is a bracelet that I wrapped around my neck and tied up at the back with a piece of string.  It was a classic case where the saying “Necessity is a mother of invention” can be applied.

I was having a lot of fun bringing all the elements together to create a stylish new outfit and I think I succeeded.

What do you think, my friends? Would really like to hear your thoughts.

ROUGH DENIM MEETS SMOOTH SILK|LINK-UP PARTY

ROUGH DENIM MEETS SMOOTH SILK
Hi everyone, hope you were having a good week and have made great plans for the upcoming weekend.

First of all, I would love to share with you exciting news - today I am co-hosting my very first link-up party with Nocole Mulders from High Latidute Style.  Please wish me luck.
Then, I want to tell you short story behind my today's outfit.  Ever since I was a little girl back in Russia watching Hollywood movies where ladies were dressed in beautiful silk dresses, sleeping on silk sheets and wearing silk gowns on the way to their boudoirs, I always dreamed that the day would come that I would be able to afford to buy a garment made out of this fine and luxurious fabric.

Even now, after living in Australia for over 25 years, my feelings about this gorgeous fabric has not changed. A few years ago while we were travelling through Europe and made a stop in Budapest, I found a small boutique shop not far from our hotel where I bought myself a very pretty silk blouse.

The truth of the matter is that I have only worn it few times over the years because I was saving it for “special occasions”. How silly is that? Until one day I realised that saving clothes does not make any sense, the mere nature of clothes is that they should be worn and enjoyed, not to be kept in the closet waiting for a “special day”.

Hence, a new resolution was born which I couldn’t wait to implement. Luckily for me, the opportunity presented itself almost immediately. I had a pair of slip-on shoes that I recently purchased from the shop called Alpha60, and I was trying them on to see whether I could wear them with jeans.

Then, inspired by my new resolution, I got my silk blouse out of the closet and put in on to see whether the three of them would work together. I quite liked what I saw, the roughness of the jeans was softened by the smoothness of the blouse and then anchored by the funky slip-on shoes. And that’s how this outfit was born.

Never before would I ever even have considered pairing silk with denim and yet, here I was wearing my precious silk blouse with ripped hemmed jeans and loving every minute of it.

Lesson learnt, don’t keep your clothes to be worn just for a “special occasion”, life is too short for that.

My earrings from Mozi is a gift from my husband on our monthly wedding anniversary.  Not sure if you recall my post a while ago about how on the 29th of every month he buys me a small gift to celebrate our wedding day and then  on 29th of July (our official wedding date) he surprises me with something really decadent.  They add just enough sparkle to my outfit.

Are there some items of clothing in your wardrobe that you save for a “special occasion”? I would really like to know if there is anyone else who shares similar habit.

BRIGHT ON BRIGHT OR HOW I STYLED PALAZZO PANTS

Hi everyone, hope that you are all having a great week so far.

Here is a small bit of information about myself that I have not divulged to you yet. I pride myself on never being an impulse shopper however,  as I learned at school - in English grammar where there is a rule, there is always an exception and the same, I am afraid, could be applied to what I said earlier about myself.  In my defence, however, it’s happened only once.
BRIGHT ON BRIGHT OR HOW I STYLED PALAZZO PANTS
It was a typical lazy Sunday morning and my husband and I had decided to make a day trip to one of the small charming sea side country towns, called Avoca, about an hour’s drive from Sydney.  Apparently, a monthly Sunday market was being held on that day and I begged my husband to take me there.  I absolutely love markets, whether it is fresh produce, clothes, art or just brick –and –brac.  I never miss an opportunity to visit one during our overseas travels like London’s Borrough Market, Barcelona’s LaBoqueria Market, Nishiki Market in Kyoto or Mercado Da Ribeira in Lisbon.

The Avoca market was of a smaller calibre, of course, but with a nice mix of everything and while making my rounds along the clothing stalls, a very bright pattern in one of them caught my attention.  On closer inspection, it turned out to be a pair of palazzo pants with a ridiculously low you guessed it, I price tag attached.  That or just an itch to buy something for the sake of buying it, but I found myself guilty as charged.

When we arrived home, I decided to try them on and see how they would fit into my existing wardrobe.  Turned out that the only item in my wardrobe that more or less was suited to go with them was a white billowing shirt that was too long to be left loose and if I tucked it inside, I looked enormous around the waist so I ended up tightening it up in a knot.  I blogged about this outfit back in 2015 (seen here).  Back then I also made a point of saying that if one of the items in an outfit has a strong presence, the other should be of a lesser volume so as to avoid a clash.
My bright outfit almost stopped the traffic

Two years later, I have totally changed my mind and chose to go in the opposite direction.  In a grey, non-sunny day as today, I decided to brighten it up by pairing the strong bold pattern of my palazzo pants with a brightly coloured top or quoting Rachel Zoe, taking a “more is more” attitude towards my outfit.  I did however, follow my own advice of being careful about accessories but I figure that these bohemian looking earrings will do no harm.

Have you ever experienced a change of heart towards the same item of clothing or entirely outfit?  And how do you like to wear something bright and bold? Looking forward to hearing from you.

Until then,

Anna
